In 1961, he decided to give up his banking career to paint full-time. A fellowship from the Rockefeller Council enabled him to travel across the world. The following year he was invited to the American University, Washington D.C. as artist in residence. He has had numerous one-man shows in India and abroad. He has also participated in various group shows including "Contemporary Art: A Dialogue between East and West", National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo (1969), "Pictorial Space" Lalit Kala Academi, New Delhi (1977), "India: myth and reality" Museum of Modern Art, Oxford (1982), "Contemporary Indian Art", Royal Academy of Arts, London (1982), "Modem Indian Painting' Hirschhorn Museum, Washington D.C. (1982) and 'Coups de Coeur", Halles de L'lle, Geneva (1987). His work has been presented in the Biennales of Sao Paulo, Venice and Tokyo. He has lectured on art at the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. His occasional writings have appeared in magazines such as The Times, London and Marg, Bombay. |
