(1913-1980)

Gopal Ghose was born in Calcutta in 1913. His childhood was spent in Simla. Gopal Ghose started his training in art at Maharaja's School of Arts and Crafts, Jaipur where he worked from 1931-55. After gaining his diploma, he joined the Madras Art School to study under the well known sculptor D.P.Roy Choudhury, where he worked from 1935 to 38. Gopal Ghose then started teaching at the Indian Society of Oriental Art in Calcutta (1940-45) and at the Bengal Engineering College where he taught Architectural Design. From 1950 to 1970 he taught at Government College of Arts and Crafts, Calcutta. Gopal Ghose had travelled extensively in India. He also visited the U.S.A. and Europe. He held numerous one man shows, his work and his paintings are in a number of public and private collections. Since 1960 Kumar Gallery, Calcutta and New Delhi exhibited his paintings.
