Biren De obtained his diploma in Fine Art from the Government College of Arts and Crafts, Calcutta in 1949. Subsequently he was a lecturer at the College of Art, New Delhi, from 1952-63. In 1959 De was awarded a Fullbright Grant and he spent the following year living and working in New York. He has exhibited widely, representing India at the Venice Biennial (1962) and the Salon de Mai, Paris (1951) Kumar Gallery, New Delhi held his one-man shows between 1963-1967. His works are in the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi, the Berlin State Museum and the National Gallery, Prague. |
